My Name is Jessica Roode. I am a Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams, a licensed Marketing Representative at an insurance agency part-time. I am also working as a shift manager and bartender at The Porch Willoughby while I finish my mentorship with Cleveland State University's Athletic Department. I graduated from Tiffin University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, concentration in Operations Management in 2012. I plan to graduate with an MBA with a concentration in Sports Management in April of 2016.
Goals for the Mentorship and the Future
Goals for Mentorship:
- Apply what I learned through the courses of the program to real world situations, like compliance, strategic planning and Fundraising in sports. I truly hope to learn every aspect of the Athletic Department at Cleveland State University.
- Learn how each athletic program is run, how they work and what needs to be done on a daily basis, not just on game days
- Observe people who have knowledge in this industry and have experience to give me guidance on the direction I should go in and where I would grow and be challenged in, whether it is in the NCAA at a college/university or in professional sports.
Future Goals:
- In the future, my goal is to work for a university athletic department, still not sure the direction I want to go in, because all of positions are interesting, but I do know that I eventually want to coach track and field and cross country, starting at the High School level to gain more experience and then go from there or work for USA Track and Field or Marathons, the problem is that I want to try it all and really find my niche, work in an area I am passionate about, and regardless of the career path that is my biggest goal.
Cleveland State University is part of the NCAA Division I Horizon League. I will primarily be working with the Basketball portion of the Athletic Department, as well as, wrestling and at the end of my mentorship, I will be helping with Tennis and Softball. I will have many opportunities to observe and participate in the partnership with Quicken Loans in holding some of the Basketball games in that facility. In Northeast Ohio, Cleveland State University is one of the most popular and up-and-coming Universities with athletes and students. Our main goal is to show school aged children what it means to be a Viking, meaning that Academics are more important than the sport, the amount of time they put into their sport should be put into their school work in order to be considered to play at Cleveland State University, or any school in this league.
